How to Hand an Unfinished Job to a Colleague

Prepare a handover that separates completed work, remaining scope, dependencies and customer promises before another person attends the next Visit.

Daylane week schedule with field Jobs, Customers and service Locations
A real Daylane schedule with sanitised fictional example data.

Describe what happened, what remains and what the next person needs to decide before they attend. A useful handover connects the previous Visit's outcome to the next Visit's purpose. It should not require the replacement person to infer the scope from a short note such as 'parts needed'.

Write the unfinished state precisely

The fictional example below describes scheduling context for a cupboard Job. It does not give repair instructions. Record any technical findings through the appropriate work process and keep unverified customer reports labelled as reports.

Check the replacement person's actual view

Daylane assignment management allows one primary assignee and up to four additional team members on a Visit. Selected people can open and update that Visit. Review the current assignment and put attendance-specific information into Visit internal instructions.

Do not assume Location access notes automatically appear in the private Visit view. Carry over only the necessary current access arrangement, then check the customer-facing instructions remain appropriate for sharing.

Make the next decision explicit

Assign someone to confirm the dependency and offer the return time. If the part is not ready, keep that blocker visible rather than reserving an attendance with no deliverable purpose.

Before the next person leaves, confirm scope, access, materials and timing. After attendance, record whether the remaining work was completed or another action is needed. The handover is finished when the next person can act and the record explains the outcome.
