Prepare one row per Customer, save a UTF-8 CSV and preview it in Daylane's Import and export settings. The import accepts up to 1,000 Customers in a file no larger than 1 MB. Owners and schedulers can use it. Download the fictional example below to see the supported column names before preparing your own data.
Use the supported column names
Keep the template's headers unchanged. Header matching ignores case and surrounding spaces, but a different name such as 'Address line 1' is not the supported 'Street address' import header. Unsupported columns are not mapped into Customer or Location fields.
| Header | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Name | Required; up to 160 characters |
| Optional valid email; up to 320 characters | |
| Phone | Optional text; up to 40 characters |
| Street address | Up to 200 characters; complete all four Location fields or leave them all blank |
| Suburb | Up to 120 characters; part of the four Location fields |
| State | ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC or WA |
| Postcode | Exactly four digits when a Location is supplied |
| Internal notes | Optional Customer notes; up to 5,000 characters |
Check the saved file, not only the editing view
Preserve phone numbers and postcodes as text, including any leading zero. Inspect the saved CSV in a text editor if you are unsure what your editor exported. The example's postcode 0800 must still contain four digits in the actual file. Replace or remove every fictional row before using the file for your business.
Use a CSV-capable editor that quotes a field containing a comma, quotation mark or line break. Do not simply join cells with commas by hand. Save as UTF-8, and avoid adding an introductory title row above the column headers.
Preview, correct and then import
In Import and export, choose your Customer CSV and select Preview import. The preview displays up to the first ten valid rows. Resolve all reported errors and preview again; seeing some valid rows alongside errors is not a ready-to-import result.
A ready preview says no records have been added yet. Compare its total with your intended Customer count, then select Import Customers when ready. Review the imported and skipped totals afterwards. Previewing alone does not create Customers.
Know what this import does not recreate
This workflow imports Customers and optionally one initial Location per new Customer. It does not import Jobs, Visits, separate contact roles, Location labels or access notes. Daylane's export datasets have different schemas, so exporting every dataset and uploading it as a Customer file is not a full restore process.
